Chiki is not just another Pop artist. She stands for something bigger-something that most anyone can relate to: Wanting to Become and do Something More than where you came from. Her need to accomplish has turned her from the ordinary girl into someone amazing!

Wherever Chiki goes, people stop and say “Who the heck is that?” With her space-age getup and blue lips, she seems like a made up persona yet something is so genuine about her. Her charisma and obvious star quality makes her stand out. People stop dead in their tracks. At a recent photoshoot in Boston, a crowd of fifty locals stopped foot traffic and crowded around to watch Chiki in action. No doubt, there is something infectious that everyone can relate to about her. The thing that is real is she comes from a rough city where she had to work her buns off to become something. Anything. Chiki excelled at school and especially the arts, studying dance, acting and usually landing every lead role. She was always known for singing, being wacky and having tons of dance rhythm. That's when she caught the attention of Managers of Local Hip-Hop Groups; some of which gained Major Label Attention.

She became a Community Hero at the age of 17, inspiring about 100 children and Adults to follow her lead through her drama Classes/Theater Productions-directing her own original musicals. One parent once said to me regarding Chiki’s work with her daughter. “Thank you. I think you’ve unleashed a person in my daughter!” Chiki says “You know, I didn’t unleash her daughter. I only allowed her to see her wings and know without a doubt that she can fly and has the right to.” In fact, she has always been a person who believes she can fly. “I remember at a recent but local high profile event, someone actually called me ‘Somerville Trash’. An executive at the show also told me not to tell anyone where I am from; as though I should be ashamed. I was really insulted at first. I never really thought of where I came from as a bad place because I was always focused on where I was going.”

Chiki graduated from College with an Arts Degree on the Dean’s List. She was one of the first of her family to accomplish this. Chiki’s family came to the United States from Portugal and she has many aunts and uncles. “I always joke that I had to work hard to get fed and that’s why I ended up so creative.” Chiki’s journey then brought her into the corporate world. It has been a long time since there has been an artist who has lived in the real world. “I suffered for my art and wanted to strengthen my reality side. I didn’t want to be just an artist.” With her mixed music palette, her energetic sound is eclectic and mixes genres and sounds like Musical Theatre mixed with Rock, electronic sounds and sometimes hip-hop beats.

“I wanted my music to be so far from generic and for it to be intelligent. At the same time, I wanted to talk about real things; have real lyrics and still have a positive message without being too serious.” Not an easy thing to do but with songs like ‘Monotony” she accomplishes this and creates a song that will motivate anyone out of a slump. "I wanted to create something that would include both my theatrical background and my pop/urban background. It took a while for me to develop it through trial and error."

Chiki took every gig she could to develop her music and art. She played in places that most artists wouldn't dare go. "At first, my vision wasn't coming across and I'm thankful that I have that grit of hard work- it made me tougher and stronger." Within in a year, however, Chiki had gained notariety, a growing fanbase and excellent press reviews. Next thing you know she's opening for top Billboard Performing Artists from all over the world. But she earned her place for sure.

Onstage she has been described as an over the top persona with unlimited energy. Not many performers can do on stage what they do in the studio. “Becoming the over-exaggerated version of my true personality is the only thing that made sense. I never feel complete unless I’m using my acting/theater background and my music writing skills. I don’t want to be just a pop artist. I have a vision of inspiring people to be something not generic. Not from a superficial standpoint of fame, or looking Hot, or an image. Anyone can copy or fake an image. I want to be completely entertaining and completely authentic. When people hear my music or see something I’ve done, they can say ‘It’s Chiki.’ I want to stretch the boundaries of a female icon and inspire anyone who sees themselves as ordinary to know they are extraordinary. I have a vision of the Chiki story to become an infamous and true legend.
